Supervisor I have been with the scheme for over 6 years and I find my work very rewarding. I’ve dealt with various people from different backgrounds (those seeking asylum, the homeless and woman fleaing domestic violence). I’ve witnesses what a helping hand can do when someone is in need. I’m one of those people who like to keep busy, so while I was at college I decided to put my spare time to good use doing voluntary work, I started at the Welwyn Hatfield CVS office helping with the administration work. Once I’d finished college, The CVS hadn’t found an administrator and at the time I didn’t want to take on the job because I was exploring other avenues, so they decided to take me on as a temp which later escalated into my position becoming permanent; and so my journey begins, I saw the once up and running furniture scheme was dormant and expressed my interest. With the help of Carmen and Alison funding was applied for and granted which enable me to get volunteers to help piece the scheme back together. I am the point of contact in the office which is not easy especially when someone is distraught from a recent bereavement or someone is desperate for help, I've had people cry on my shoulder and people make me cry but I also get to see people smile and show there gratitude when we are able to help. We're not just a furniture scheme we are also part of one of Welwyn Hatfield largest community related information centres, The Welwyn Hatfield Council for Voluntary Service , so we are able to point clients in other avenues e.g.
In order to help raise money for the scheme I also design websites for charitable organisations, this site is one of my creations. I enjoy doing my job and I like to try and find ways to improve the scheme for the community. Davinia Dillon
